Here are a few of the successful projects accomplished by Barbara Brooks and Flamingo Strategies.

COVID-19 leadership RESPONSE

During five critical months beginning March 2020, Barbara was contracted to write all Covid-related messages and digital event communications for the Chancellor of the University of Denver. Through the end of 2020, she continued to support the university’s most urgent marketing and communications needs, including the ongoing Covid response to internal and external stakeholders.

launching a branded NEWS BLOG

The University of Denver needed a digital platform for distinguishing the university through proactive storytelling and sharing of strategic content. Barbara was responsible for creation of news.du.edu, a blog for alumni, prospective families, media and friends. In the first year,  more than 500 stories reached nearly 10,000 discrete readers and often also earned coverage in local and national media outlets.

strategic plan messaging

For the University of Denver, Barbara led the collaboration on the visual identity and vocabulary for DU IMPACT 2025. She also led the internal team's work to express the strategic plan across all university platforms including impact.du.edu. As a consultant, Barbara has partnered with DU's MarComm and advancement teams to support mission-critical projects.

Coloradan Magazine Cover story

Among Barbara’s three assignments for the alumni magazine at the University of Colorado Boulder was a Summer 2021 cover story about how leadership is taught to undergraduates—from engineering and business, to philosophy and law. Interviews with a dozen students and faculty uncovered a truly relevant and important approach that is both art and science, and can definitely be taught.

activating Mission and Vision

Barbara provides Regis Jesuit High School with advancement communication strategy and writing support, to bring Inspire & Ignite 2025 to life. The new web presence features Stories that Inspire, new videos for each major funding initiative, and brochure PDFs, all designed to engage donors and prepare for breaking ground on a state-of-the-art Science & Innovation Center.

going viral

At Colgate University, Barbara led the team that created a viral April Fool's Day "gag" leveraging the school's name. The story and video, announcing that the liberal arts college would be opening a dental school, generated 28,000+ YouTube views and was deemed one of the year's best campaigns by Time, The London Telegraph and Christian Science Monitor. Colgate, toothpaste, get it??
